Schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and rotating weekends (9am-5pm)

Position Summary

Brierfield Historic Ironworks State Park is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Part-Time Office Assistant to support daily park operations. This position will provide clerical, administrative, and visitor service support to ensure smooth and efficient office management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist park visitors, answer phones, and respond to inquiries.
  • Process reservations for facilities, events, and campground bookings.
  • Maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Assist with cash handling, ticket sales, and daily reconciliation.
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts, including social media updates.
  • Prepare correspondence, forms, and documents as assigned.
  • Provide administrative support to park staff, including scheduling and communications.
  • Assisting with special events, programs, and weekend activities is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Prior clerical, customer service, or administrative experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic office equipment.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in a busy environment.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and assist with park events.

Work Environment

  • Office-based position with frequent interaction with the public.
  • Occasional light lifting (up to 25 lbs.) and walking within park facilities required.

Compensation

  • Hourly wage based on experience.
  • State benefits may apply depending on hours worked and employment classification.

Employment Type: Part-Time / Seasonal (specify as needed)
Salary Range: $12/hour

Position Summary:

The Gate Attendant serves as the primary point of contact for park visitors, providing a welcoming experience while managing entry procedures, collecting fees, and offering basic information services. This role is crucial in maintaining park security, ensuring accurate visitor records, and fostering positive guest interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

Visitor Entry & Fee Collection

  • Greet all incoming guests with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Collect entrance fees, issue receipts, and provide park passes or wristbands as needed.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems and maintain accurate cash and transaction records.

Information & Assistance

  • Provide visitors with maps, brochures, and basic information about park amenities, rules, and events.
  • Answer questions and direct guests to cabins, campsites, trails, and facilities.

Safety & Monitoring

  • Monitor traffic flow and ensure only authorized vehicles enter restricted areas.
  • Report suspicious activity, emergencies, or safety concerns to park management.
  • Assist with crowd control during busy weekends and special events.

Recordkeeping & Communication

  • Maintain daily logs of visitor counts, transactions, and incidents.
  • Communicate effectively with park staff regarding guest needs or operational issues.

Facility Upkeep

  • Keep the gatehouse clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Ensure signage and entry materials are visible and up to date.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous customer service or cashier experience is a plus.
  • Ability to operate basic computer systems and handle cash accurately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors and remain alert during long shifts.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and professional in appearance and demeanor.

Job Title: Housekeeping Worker
Location: Brierfield Historic Ironworks State Parks, Alabama
Department: Park Operations
Reports To: Park Manager
Employment Type: Part-Time / weekends and holidays included
Salary Range: $18,720.00 – $26,208.00

Position Summary:

This is manual work involving the custodial care of public buildings and premises. Employees in this job classification perform cleaning and minor maintenance work in state buildings and cabins. Applicants meeting the qualifications listed below. Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all park guests. This includes cleaning cabins, restrooms, public areas, and event spaces, as well as assisting with laundry and restocking supplies. Housekeepers play a key role in ensuring guest satisfaction and supporting the park’s historic and recreational mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility Cleaning

  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, visitor centers, and other public areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust as needed.
  • Empty trash bins and replace liners.
  • Replace Air Filters, Light Bulbs, and similar task.
  • Set up and take down portable tables and chairs.
  • Restock paper products

Cabin Turnover

  • Strip and replace linens and towels.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms, kitchens, living areas and porches.
  • Sweep, mop. vacuum, and dust as needed.
  • Clean and restock kitchen ware.
  • Replace Air Filters, Light Bulbs, and similar task.
  • Restock amenities and report any maintenance issues.

Laundry Duties

  • Wash, dry, fold, and store linens and towels.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling and sorting laundry.

Restocking & Inventory

  • Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and cleaning products.
  • Notify supervisor of low inventory or equipment needs.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety protocols and use cleaning chemicals properly.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work cooperatively with other staff and supervisors.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with guests and coworkers.
  • Participate in training and staff meetings as required.

Responsibilities subject to change from time to time as direct by Park Superintendent.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Drivers Licensee
  • Six months of experience in housekeeping and custodial work.
  • Previous housekeeping or custodial experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Physical ability stand, bend over, reach above head, and to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform manual cleaning tasks.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
